Sunday Mornings for Children
We offer a nursery and two children’s Sunday School classes from 9:30-10:15 during the school year.
-
Our littlest children may rest content in their parent’s arms during services or enjoy the love, warmth and fun of our Nursery. Our nursery caregivers are here every Sunday from 9:30 a.m. until the last child leaves for communion or coffee hour. Child care is provided for major parish events like the Annual Meeting and the Christmas Pageant as well as Sunday morning.
-
We offer Godly Play in Room 202 for children aged four (and potty-trained) through grade 3. Godly Play is a Montessori-based program that uses a spiral curriculum that moves back and forth through the stories of the Old and New Testaments. Due to its carefully-conceived structure, it works well for a wide range of ages and developmental levels. It is designed to help children to explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play.
-
Our fourth through seventh graders meet in Room 105. They are beginning the "Rite 13" program. The name Rite-13 comes from the liturgical rite of passage we will celebrate with our teens around their 13th birthdays. Becoming a teen is celebrated in the church with a service loosely modeled on the Jewish bar or bach mitzvah. In preparation for the Rite 13 curriculum, students this year are devoting time to the great stories of Scripture and their validity in our day.
-
In Grades 8-12, we begin the Episcopal program, “Journey to Adulthood,” an ambitious but proven program with the goal of accompanying young teens during the momentous years of transition from childhood and helping them to become young Christian men and women. Perhaps more than anything else, all activities are geared to build this community, to establish trust and safety, to remind young people again and again that this is their church, and that they are safe and welcome within it.
-
On the fifth Sunday of each month during the school year, all age groups meet together with their parents for Pancakes and PJ's. Children are invited to wear their pajamas to church and to enjoy a story, pancake breakfast, and craft in Collins Hall with their parents.
